Thugs of Hindostan Review: This Aamir and Amitabh Starrer Is Not Even A Poor Copy of ‘The Pirates…’

Rating ⭐️

Have you ever seen Aamir Khan promoting his upcoming like never before? We hardly witness a phenomenon where he is attending a talk show or appearing in commercials just to draw the attention of his audience. Never. Not at least in the last one decade. Then what dwindled him right before when his Thugs of Hindostan was all set to release. It seems Aamir’s so-called ‘gut feeling’ deceived him big time; therefore, he ended up being the part of a film, which is not even a poor copy of its Hollywood inspiration.

Set in the era of the Indian struggle for freedom, Thugs of Hindostan takes off when the brutal British officer Clive (Lloyd Owen) kills Mirza (Ronit Roy) to grab his kingdom. This led the princess Zafira (Fatima Sana Shaikh) to form a band with Khudabaksh aka Azaad (Amitabh Bachchan) and swears to avenge his father Mirza and get the kingdom back. On the other hand, the British Company hires the puckish thug Firangi (Aamir) to keep an eye on Khudabaksh and his strategies.

Screenplay and Dialogues

Wow! A brilliant piece of writing.  The script and the screenplay have been peened so aptly that the genius of Aamir Khan could not gauge its worth. If either of the two-mega stars couldn’t get the flaws of the script, the rest only blindly followed. 10/10 to Vijay Krishna Acharya.

We must underline that dialogues of Thugs of Hindostan are apt and some of them even really impactful. But Alas! Only dialogues cannot save a sinking ship.

We fail to understand what makes the YRF appointing this guy time again despite his disappointing efforts in every aspect of film-making. Thugs of Hindostan once again has brought nothing but a KING SIZED DISAPPOINTMENT to YRF as well as to the fans of this 48 years old film institute.

Undoubtedly, Big B shines in this bloated and tacky affair of thugs. He lives up Khudabaksha or Azaad with a huge conviction. Aamir Khan also enters into the skin of Firangi seamlessly and he is the only one who widens your smiles. Fatima did half of what she did in Dangal and could excel in that strong role. Katrina once again has been shelved to attract mere eyeballs, and yes, she successfully does her job, especially when the audience take sighs while she groves to ‘Suraiya’, and ‘Manzoor-e-Khuda’.

Except for the aforementioned tracks, you will love ‘Vashmalle’ featuring the duo lead actors. And that’s about it. Background score is just OK. Yes, special mention to the Lyrics. They really impress.

Why Should You Watch?

We hardly find any reason to recommend this film to you even on T.V. when SET Max will telecast it after a couple of months. By the way, the channel has paid a whopping sum to get its satellite rights.
